Twente’s Theo Janssen slams team-mates after losing title decider against Ajax

Twente midfielder Theo Janssen has voiced his frustration with the performance of his team-mates in Sunday’s Eredivisie title decider away against Ajax.

The Tukkers only needed a draw to clinch their second Eredivisie title, but were beaten 3-1 and missed out on the league trophy, much to the dismay of Janssen.

“It was clear to see who were men and who were not in this game. Yes, I’m definitely disappointed in what my team-mates showed today,” Janssen was quoted as saying by NUsport.

“We came here to clinch the title, but we do not deserve it with a performance like this. It looked like some of us were afraid to play our own game. It’s impossible to win matches if you play like this. Finishing second means nothing.”

Despite losing to Ajax, Twente still finished second in the table to qualify for the Champions League qualifiers as PSV were held to a scoreless draw by Groningen.
